Never seen that on any RARDEN I have worked with, good guess' Chris but neither applicable. Only thing I can think of is that it may have been used in trials in development and filled a space!!! Bob |

Thanks Sabre I could be FoS but could the 'space gun' marking be a 'pinch hazard' warning - to keep your hand out of that space because depression of the gun would otherwise crush it? Alternatively, could it mean that you need to check the headspacing on the gun before you shoot it? [Edited by Chris Werb (20 Dec 2004).] |

If you have broadband (which I don't) there's a video on Diemaco's (crappy!) website: http://www.diemaco.com/cg-videos.htm |

That’s what I would have thought Chris until I read 'An ammo hopper sits on the side of the machine gun allowing the weapon to be quickly reloaded compared to belt-fed machine guns.' on http://www.project-ukf.com/infantry/sabre.php They may be wrong though. Anyway I now have the operation manual on the way to me which should tell us. Stuart – a copy of the Fox gunnery manual would be very useful, thanks very much. Over Christmas when I get some time I am going to upload all the ces, manuals, photos etc that I have to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cvrtw/ Charlie |

same for Chieftain had to carry 3 spare links but not listed on CES although pins and circlips were(circlips made blo*** good key rings) Bob |

Thanks for that article Briganza. Does anyone know how the ammo for the 7.62 hughes chain-gun is packaged? There is very little about them on the web. |

quote: For a short time I commanded a Spartan and was fleet manager for a mortar pl. I do not remember ever seeing links on CESs. I do not remember even having them on the veh. In the 5 years I was mech I cannot remember ever changing a link. We changed pads and in one case in 1979 we changed all the 432 tracks in the Bn at the same time, but never a link. From memory the 43 had 94 and was condemned when it reached 89. The CVR(T) had 110? And I think could go to 100 before condemning it. And as I think of the CESs on the shelves links never appeared. They may have been held by the QM in a central pool i.e. with every 10 veh you get a track. |

To any ex/currrent CVRT crew, Something i have beeen wondering is there is no mention in the CES etc of any spare track links being carried. Is this current practice? It seems odd that pin tools etc are mentioned but no links. Have never seen any carried on the hull either? Regards, Charlie |

Here's a page of info about Alvis's successor to the Scorpion, the Stormer 30. The basic Stormer is a stretched Spartan (extra roadwheel), but for the Stormer 30 it's lowered, producing a Scorpion-like profile. I don't know if anybody's bought it, but I suspect not. http://www.army-technology.com/projects/stormer30/ |

Charlie, thats one fine looking machine. You have obviously done a lot of work on it.Thanks for posting the Pictures up on my page.Let me know if you take it to beltring, I could do with recording a few sounds of it running. It could be quite useful for a few guys I know working on a future project. Incidentally, other than the Coax, is there many changes inside the turret from the Fox? If not, I can PDF a Fox gunnery manual for you if its any use.it has some details of the RARDEN.Though it looks like you already have it finished |
