Belgian Army used FR made AMX-13 model 56 (or AMX-VCI) and USA made M75 APC. M75 came from USA as military aid and I'm interesting how much and when M75 and AMXwere delivered to Belgian Army. Did the Belgian regiments/battalions used both types APC at one time (one company M75, next AMX and etc.) or how they were distributed?

A friend of mine who served in the Chassuers Ardennais in the late 70s mentioned that they had both, though how they were distributed I don't know.

IIRC, the M75 entered service in 1961 and the AMX-13 Mod.56 from 1969. Of the latter, 555 were build under licence by CFC. In some units, the M75 was replaced by the AMX, other units had to wait for the arrival of the AIFV-B and M113A1-B in 1982.

I've got the following sevice dates for tracked APC:
M75 - late 1950s(may refer to order) or 1961 - 600vehicles
AMX-VCI - 1964 -554 vehicles (all versions)
M113A1-B - 1980 - 525 vehicles (all versions)
AIFV-B - 1982 or 1985(may refer to 25mm version)- 514(all versions)

I don't know how the replacement scheme worked but the M75 and AMX-VCI both lasted into the mid 1980s.

Jay

I've seen several sources that suggest the M75s lasted longest in the brigade engineer companies (Armies of NATO's Central Front among them). Also, a significant number of AMX-VCIs were in war reserve as the cold war ended (and I think at least some M75s -- here the original CFE declarations would be useful)

Edit: OK, checked last night -- 77 M75s still on hand in 1990, 330 AMX-VCI declared under CFE, plus another 145 believed to be in inventory.
