I was recently browsing the militaryphotos forum and I came upon a picture of several Marines with back-pack radio systems thaty I had never seen before. Heres the link:

I have looked through Google and yahoo search but I can't find jack, What is this radio system? I also wonder if anybody knows of a web-site that deals with US military radio systems from the 1970s on?

Looks heavy. Might be some sort of ground air controller's set.

Thanks for the link. I still have not been able to find any info on this radio system. I don't know why it alludes me right now. sad.gif Very few of the pictures come up though, and if they do they are extremely small so you can't make out any detail. sad.gif

Based on the fact that I can see another radio antenna for (probably) a PRC-148(VHF/UHF), I'm thinking it's a base station for a UAV/UGV or EOD robot. Or something similar. Not neccesarily a (voice)radio in itself. S/F......Ken M

Does the fact that the antenna is deployed during movement suggest it is a voice transmitting radio more than a remote control device?

The coiled cable visible indicate the presence of a voice headset or handset present. But I cannot see if the coiled cable is connected to the manpack thing or merely connected to a small radio somewhere else.

It's easier to keep an uplink going than it is to re-establish one.....

Maybe....but I don't see the removeable faceplate/console that is the standard for all the new Harris products. S/F.....Ken M
